Voluntary Mugshot Removal Policy

MCJmugs (“we,” “us,” “the Site”) publishes booking photographs and related arrest information obtained from publicly available government records. We recognize that this information can affect people long after a case has been resolved. This policy explains how someone may request that their record be reviewed for removal.

1. Who May Request Removal

A request may be submitted by the individual pictured in the mugshot or their legal representative, with documentation of authorization.

2. Grounds for Removal

We will review requests where any of the following apply:

• Charges were dismissed or dropped, or the person was found not guilty.
• The arrest resulted in an expungement, record sealing, or pardon, with proof.
• There was mistaken identity or a posting error, such as the wrong photo, wrong name, or a duplicate entry.
• The case is more than 20 years old and there is no indication of a public-safety concern, such as subsequent related charges.
• A court order directs removal or restricts publication.

We generally will not remove a record solely because the person requests it with no qualifying circumstance, or because the charges are pending.

3. How to Submit a Request

Use the Voluntary Removal Request form and include the name shown, arrest date and agency, a link to the listing, the reason for the request, and any applicable supporting documentation.

4. No Fee for Qualifying Removals

MCJmugs does not charge to remove a listing that qualifies under Section 2. No payment will be requested or accepted for a request tied to dismissal, expungement, or an identity or posting error.

5. Non-Qualifying Voluntary Removal

If a listing does not qualify under Section 2, a voluntary removal may still be requested from mcjmugs.online, Marshall’s Mugshot Mania on Facebook, and Marshall County Jail Inmate Roster on Facebook.

6. Review Timeline

• We aim to acknowledge requests within one day.
• Qualifying requests will be processed within two days after complete documentation is received.
• If a request is denied, we will state the reason and identify any additional documentation that may support reconsideration.

7. Verification

To protect against fraudulent requests, we may require government-issued identification matching the listing or documentation directly from a court or records custodian.

8. What Removal Means

Removal takes the listing down from MCJmugs’ own site and search index going forward. It does not affect the underlying government record. We cannot remove copies indexed, cached, or republished by third parties.

9. Discretionary Review

Outside the categories above, we may review and remove a listing at our discretion, including cases involving documented harassment, a safety risk, or where continued publication no longer serves a clear public-interest purpose.
